For instance, on Manjaro - just use the gui to install apps, not the command line - and restart when it tells you to. A lot of it comes down to picking the right distro and not being a cowboy. It just works for me and I have it on 3 desktops and a laptop. But I never have that type of issues at all on Linux. An “unchangeable” resolution is fixable if it’s not a hardware issue. The types of issues that Windows has can’t be fixed. It's really more like working with code than maintaining a system.Īnother great thing is that with Nix, once a problem is solved once, It's solved forever (Since literally everything defining your system is under version control). Nix is super unique, you can set up your own Hydra (the Nix build bot), run your own package cache, fork and maintain your own stuff. Staying with stable and possibly having to patch the config sligtly (to fix upgrades) every 6m. Not only to stand out, but also be recognizable and in the most rediculous cases, possibly avoid patent subpoenas.If I were to install a Linux distro for my father again I would probably use NixOS, because he won't be installing packages, and then just maintaining the config file, automatic upgrades and killing older generations just works. You can’t have everything in life without sweating for some of them… I don’t demand developers to change stuff in their product and make it behave like application X I made those mistakes in the past, but i understand some things about having to make choices in life for yourself as well… I adept to what the program is designed for to use or designed to do. I needed a little while to get adjusted to Renoises workflow after having to kiss IT goodbye, fair square, but that is what you have to choose for when changing to a complete other program. I know Impulse Tracker quite well, but Impulse tracker is not Renoise.
